First Look
It was my first journey to Harelaw this week together with a few my colleagues, Euan and Stephen who’s an everyday on the fishery. Set on moorland within the hills above Neilston it is a phenomenal little bit of water, with a useful espresso store to seize a drink, a meal or a snack when you’re getting arrange.
Inbuilt 1844, Harelaw covers 102 acres and contains over 3 miles of very good wading banks, 4 dam partitions, and three islands. It is a fairly shallow water, averaging depth of 5-9 ft and a most dept of 13ft. This implies there are fish to be discovered all around the fishery and it fishes rather well with floating strains or midge suggestions by way of a lot of the season. Catch experiences within the final couple of days present a ship returning 30 fish with all of them coming to small CDC dry flies.
We began with a chilly mild breeze and shiny clear skies, superb for establishing a pleasant drift however holding the fish down a bit of. Euan and I began with a blob and buzzer utilizing a quick retrieve to attempt to stimulate some fast takes. After a few drifts the tactic picked up fish that had been keen to chase, each of us had Trout bow waving and bumping our flies though nothing caught. With the fish on the feed and seeking to chase we swapped over to pulling patterns. I picked out a White Bunny Leech and Euan went for a Pink Snake.
Blanks Off
Right away the fish had been again on the quick retrieved patterns, I had a take then Euan hooked and misplaced one earlier than we each obtained fish to the online.
The strain’s off as soon as each the rods within the boat have a fish so then it was a little bit of pleasant competitors and an opportunity to beat Stephen on his personal water.
Euan had two on in fast succession, I landed one then hooked and misplaced a pair however then I misplaced the Bunny Leech too. I had a hunt across the lure flyfield, tried just a few commonplace marabou patterns however they weren’t what the fish had been after so after a fruitless drift I borrowed a pink snake off Euan to get again amongst them touchdown one and shedding one earlier than the climate closed in.
Stormy Skies
With the climate closing in Stephen headed again to shore, the wind was excessive and it was baltic with heavy rain coming down. We caught it out although, utilizing the drogue to maintain us at an honest velocity and hoping to get a few drifts and check out to ensure we would beat the native.
With the ultimate scores at 4:3:2, the fairweather fisherman needed to admit defeat though he is promised even the scores on our subsequent journey. I am trying ahead to getting again out on Harelaw, with the hotter climate and night classes I can not wait to stand up there once they’re on the dries and we will take a look at out the cafe too.
